![]() In the meantime, though, in reading comments from users, including in the Skylum discussion forums on their website, I am thinking that I am going to hold off on this. At the time it seemed more convenient to just use the Mac App Store. Should've bought Luminar 2018 directly from Skylum in the first place. However, in further reading I am realizing that I will probably actually need to purchase Luminar 3 as opposed to being able to download and install it free, as had been promised to all owners of Luminar 2018, because they have not yet set up anything in the Mac App Store and I'm beginning to doubt that they will. Following instructions, I then submitted my receipt for the purchase (I always hang on to emails with such information) and when I checked today, sure enough, now Luminar 2018 shows up on my list of owned software. Luminar 2018, which I had purchased in July of this year through the Mac App Store, did not show up. After that, two MacPhun software programs I'd purchased a while ago directly from the software developers immediately popped up. It is not a bad idea having intermediate steps as this allows for an edit history as compared to PhotoLab for instance which just has single sidecar file per image file that gets overwritten with each edit action but what they should have done is add a cleanup action where these files that store intermediate edit steps are deleted when the program is shut down.Īll in all, it is back to the previous version for me until inevitable updates arrive.Īfter reading posts on MacRumors and other places, I finally realized that I needed to go to the Skylum website and create an account. state files and they are XML format files similar to what many apps use as sidecar files to record the settings. These seem to be stuff extracted from the native files saved from earlier versions. A look at the "Resources" sub folder of the "History" subfolder reveals a lot of image files. If you take a peek in the "History" sub folder of your catalogue folder, you will see a ton of *.state files in there. ![]() Basically it generates files at intermediate points in your edit flow and they seem to just sit there forever accumulating over time. I believe the native format is now gone and the edits are saved to a combination of a DB and static files in the catalogue.Ī early reviewer pointed out an issue with the static files as it generates a shed load of these and there doesn't seem to be a clean up process. Luminar has always been non destructive hasn't it? You always had to export to jpeg or save in their native format. I never really wanted or needed the DAM and this is basically what they have added here as I don't see any changes in the edit part of things apart from it slowing down. However, I will probably continue with the current version as this one is a bit too slow on my admittedly ancient machine. I will probably keep LR and DXo as my two primary processors, but Luminar does have a lot going for it!!ĭownloaded mine too. That info is available under the Info tab, but not when the Library tab is in use. My biggest "nit" is I like to see the basic EXIF info (camera, lens, ISO, f-stop, shutter speed) when culling images. That's not Luminar's fault, but bit also males a task like printing a bit more complicated. For example, I like to use Canon's Print Studio Pro when printing and it only works as a plug-in with LR and Canon's own processing program. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing!! ![]() I worked on an image for a while, closed/saved everything, then opened the folder in LR. However, it appears their processing is non-destructive. I will learn, of course, but it all seems a little disjointed.ĭon't yet see how to create a copy of a file to work on it. Things just don't seem to be grouped in the right areas for me. Hopefully that's something that will be resolved in later versions. Third time I waited several minutes and the next print dialog opened OK. I went to print an image and it processed so slowly, I thought maybe something was wrong, so I cancel and started again. Some of the dialogs are pretty slow to run. Subscribe to see EXIF info for this image (if available)
